Entry Requirements
At RD American School, we use a selective admissions process to ensure students that we admit can thrive in our school program. As part of the application process, we meet with families to assess each student’s readiness to engage positively within the school community. Our review includes age-appropriate evaluations of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as indicators of social maturity and readiness to thrive in a collaborative learning environment.
While we welcome students with a range of language backgrounds, applicants must demonstrate at least a foundational level of English to ensure they can engage with the curriculum effectively and participate meaningfully in all aspects of school life. Together with parents, we also explore educational philosophies, expectations, and the school’s approach to learning, with the goal of ensuring a strong alignment between the school’s values and the family’s educational aspirations.
RD American School requires all applicants to meet the following entry requirements to be considered eligible for admission. This is in addition to meeting our assessment and immigration requirements:
  • Applicants applying for entry into Grade 1 - Students must have completed at least one year of preschool*.
  • Applicants applying for entry into Grade 2 and Grade 3 - Students must have successfully completed the previous school year* (e.g., completion of Grade 1 is required for entry into Grade 2).
*Exceptions will only be granted on a case-by-case basis with the approval of the Head of School.
Grade Placement

Enrolled students will be placed in the grade level appropriate to their age as of 1 September. It is the policy of the School to place students within their appropriate age group.
The following table is a general guide for admitting students into the appropriate grade level. Exceptions will only be granted on a case-by-case basis with the approval of the Head of School.

As part of the admissions process, we meet with each family to assess the student’s readiness to engage positively with peers and the curriculum. This includes age-appropriate evaluations of listening, speaking, reading, writing skills, and social maturity. While we welcome students from diverse language backgrounds, applicants should demonstrate a foundational level of English to participate meaningfully in school life.
We also take time to discuss educational philosophies and expectations with parents or guardians to ensure strong alignment between the family’s goals and the school’s values.
Following receipt of an application, we invite families to meet with us, either in person or virtually. Some applicants may be asked to complete an English language assessment to determine if we can provide the language support needed.
Health & Immunization Requirements
Toggle Accordion
Immunizations are one of the prerequisites for application and subsequent enrolment at RD American School. All applicants are required to submit a copy of vaccination records via the online application portal as part of the admissions process.
Foreign-born Children Aged 12 and Below
All foreign-born children aged 12 and below are also required to provide documentary proof of vaccination or evidence of immunity for diphtheria and measles to the Health Promotion Board (HPB) for verification before they can proceed with their applications to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) or Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for their long-term stay in Singapore. This requirement applies only to first-time applicants.
Please note that immunisation against both measles and diphtheria is mandatory in Singapore under the Fourth Schedule of the Infectious Diseases Act (Cap 137). For more information, please refer to the HPB website: https://www.nir.hpb.gov.sg/fcine/#/.
Disclosure of Nationality and Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) approval for Singapore citizens
Toggle Accordion
Parents must fully disclose the nationality and citizenship status of all applicants, including those with dual nationality. Specifically, any applicant  aged 6 or older who are Singapore citizens (by either birth or registration) must declare this information at the time of application and must be granted approval by the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) to study at RD American School. Our Admissions Team will submit the necessary applications to MOE before a place at RD American School has been formally offered.
Enrolled families must immediately inform the Admissions Team of any changes in their nationality or residency status.
Please note that we currently do not enroll students on Student Pass.
Learning Support
Toggle Accordion
We welcome students with learning differences; however, our program may not be suitable for children with learning challenges. Admission is evaluated case by case, ensuring that our school can provide the necessary support while prioritizing the child’s best interests.
Admission may be declined if:
  • The student is unlikely to benefit from our academic program
  • Based on academic or behavioral records, your child is unlikely to strive in our school community
  • The required accommodations or support exceed the school’s available resources
  • Incomplete or inaccurate information about the student’s needs is provided during the admissions process
If, after enrollment, it becomes evident that we cannot adequately support a student, we will work closely with the family to recommend a more suitable educational environment.
